Discount Codes & Promotions

Promotions are discount rules that apply when a buyer enters a valid promo code at checkout. A promotion can give a flat dollar amount off or a percentage off the order total. Each promotion can have one or more unique codes.

Common uses:

  • Early bird discount (“EARLYBIRD — 20% off for the first 500 buyers”)
  • Group discount code for a specific company or partner
  • Sponsor activation code
  • Re-engagement offer for lapsed buyers

Path: Admin > Orders > Promotions > New Promotion

  1. Click New Promotion.
  2. Enter a Promotion Name — this is internal only; buyers do not see it.
  3. Choose Discount Type:
    • Fixed Amount — deducts a set dollar amount (e.g., $5 off)
    • Percentage — deducts a percentage of the order total (e.g., 20% off)
  4. Enter the Discount Value.
  5. Set Per-User Limit — how many times a single buyer can use any code from this promotion. Leave blank for unlimited.
  6. Click Save.

After saving the promotion:

  1. Click Add Code.
  2. Enter a code manually (e.g., “EARLYBIRD”) or click Generate for a random alphanumeric code.
  3. Repeat to add as many codes as needed.

Each code works independently — you can give different codes to different groups while tracking usage per code.

At checkout, buyers enter the code in the Promo Code field. The discount is applied to the order total before payment. Buyers can see the discount amount before confirming.

Path: Admin > Orders > Promotions > [Promotion Name]

Each promotion shows:

  • Total uses across all codes
  • Per-code usage count
  • Archive a promotion: The promotion becomes inactive. All its codes stop working immediately.
  • Archive a single code: That specific code stops working. Other codes in the promotion remain active.
  • Restore: Find the archived item and click Restore.
  • Promotion codes are not case-sensitive at checkout (“earlybird” and “EARLYBIRD” are treated the same).
  • Per-user limit applies per email address — one buyer can only redeem up to the limit regardless of which code they use.
  • There is no expiry date field on promotions; archive the promotion manually when you want codes to stop working.

“Code isn’t working at checkout” — Check if the promotion is archived. Check if the buyer has already hit the per-user limit.

“I want codes to expire after a date” — There is no automatic expiry. Schedule a reminder to archive the promotion on the desired date.

“Discount applied to the whole cart, including fees” — Discounts apply to the ticket subtotal before fees. Fees are calculated on the discounted amount.
